COLOUR
Did You Know?

In Roman times, blue was seen as a colour for peasants or the working class
However, by the Middle Ages blue pigments for paintings and blue dyes for garments were the most expensive and sought after commodities
Also, blue is my favourite colour!
TEXT
Did You Know?

In Japan, most temples have their own Temple Calligrapher, and their own set of special stamps
Many Japanese people (as well as tourists in-the-know, like me!) have their own bound "passport" book with a collection of seals and calligraphy from every temple they've visited!
TEXTURE
Did You Know?

Texture plays a huge role in art and architecture -
it helps us imagine what materials and techniques were used, even if we aren't up close
Whenever I'm wandering in a new city,
I always find myself drawn to architectural details
and usually I notice textures and materials before I pay attention to colours and shapes!
LIGHT
Did You Know?

Colours have different lengths of light-waves, and this is how our eyes can tell which colour is which!
Red has the longest wave-lengths, and is the first colour babies are able to see as their eyes develop.
The Mantis Shrimp has 16 colour receptors (compared to the 3 us humans have), making it the globe's most light-receptive color-spotting creature
